2022 State Championships


Conditions of Contest

General:

  1. The Championships will be held on Saturday, May 14 and Sunday, May 15, on BridgeBase.com ("BBO").

  2. The event will consist of two qualifying sessions on Saturday, May 14, starting at 10:00 AM and 2:00 PM, and a final session on Sunday, May 15, starting at 1:00 PM.

  3. The event will be run under the auspices of VACB275636.
    The entry fee to each session will be $10/player.

  4. The event will be open ONLY to members of Unit 150, and past winners of the State Championship.
    Pairs containing an ineligible player will be disqualified.

Format:

  1. The qualifying sessions on Saturday will consist of two independent BBO games with 18 boards in each session.
    An appropriate movement will be used, at the discretion of the Director.

  2. The final session on Sunday will consist of a complete Howell with 13 2-board rounds (26 boards).
    It will also be an independent BBO game.

  3. There will be no attempt to "seed" the fields, nor will there be any attempt to prevent replays in later sessions.

  4. Each session will be an independent club game and will award ACBL masterpoints based on that session only.
    Results for the independent club game will be posted to BBO and to ACBL Live for Clubs.

  5. Each session will be automatically stratified by BBO.

  6. Any pair where either player is not online in BBO at the beginning of a session will be automatically removed from the event.

  7. The set of hands to be used will be prepared by the Director.
    They will be made available to the players after each session.

Qualification to Final session and Carryover:

  1. For the purpose of qualification to the final, there will be full carryover from the firt qualifying session to the second.
    This carryover will not be shown in the BBO or ACBL results, but will be tracked and posted by the Director.

  2. The top 14 pairs, based on the total score from their qualifying sessions, will qualify for the final.
    The list of qualifiers will not be shown in the BBO or ACBL results, but will be posted by the Director.

  3. In the event that a qualifying pair is unable to attend the final, then the highest non-qualifying pair available will be used in their place.

  4. Registration for the final will open at 11:00 AM.
    Only pairs who have qualified to the final will be allowed to register.
    Any pair not registered by 12:45 will be disqualified, (unless given prior permission by the Director), and the highest non-qualifying pair available will be invited to play.
    Once a pair is disqualified they may not be readmitted to the event.

  5. Any pair where either player is not online in BBO at game time will be automatically removed from the event.

  6. The ACBL carryover formulae will be used to compute carryover from the qualifier to the final.
    The maximum carryover will be limited to three boards.
    The carryover will not be shown in the BBO or ACBL results, but will be tracked and posted by the Director.

General Conditions:

  1. This event will be run under the Laws of Duplicate Bridge, and ACBL regulations, except where technology issues make that unfeasable.

  2. This event is a Zero Tolerance event.
    Improper or rude behavior is subject to penalty and/or disqualification.

  3. All pairs will be required to have a convention card filled out and posted.
    Failure to do so could lead to penalties and/or disqualification.

  4. All pairs are expected to practice full disclosure of their partnership methods, using the BBO mechanisms to do so.
    This is not limited to "alertable" calls, but to any call that an opponent might not have a thorough understanding.

  5. Players are expected to alert and explain their own bids, but not their partners.
    These explanations should be visible to opponents only.

  6. All bids and plays selected in BBO will be final and immutable. There are no "UNDO"s.

  7. There will be no robot pairs. If there are an odd number of registrants, then the event will include a sitout.

  8. Robot subs may be used for disconnected players, at the Director's discretion.
    Results achieved with or against a robot sub will be considered valid.

  9. Improper communication with partner during the event is *completely* forbidden.
    This includes phone calls, text, or any other communication, wihtout the Directors explicit consent.
    If the partnersip is in the same household, they must play in separate rooms and refrain from any communication during the session.
    Anything less than this is grounds for disqualification, and may be referred to the ACBL recorder for further action.

  10. The Director has final authority on any issues that may arise during the game, on any rulings or adjustments, or on scoring issues.

Awards:

  1. The New Hampshire State Champion will be the pair with the highest total score including carryover, as determined by the Director after the final session.

  2. The NHBA Flight B and Flight C Award winners will be the pair with the highest total score in the two qualifying sessions, as determined by the Director after the 2nd qualifying session.

  3. For the purposes of the Flight B award, a pair will be eligible if both members are members of Unit 150, and the pair was stratified as B or C Strat in BBO during the first qualifying session.
    Both players must have a valid ACBL number in their BBO profile.

  4. For the purposes of the Flight C award, a pair will be eligible if both members are members of Unit 150, and the pair was stratified as C Strat in BBO during the first qualifying session.
    Both players must have a valid ACBL number in their BBO profile.
